The St. Thomas Health Department is reporting a significant reduction in COVID-19 hospitalisations and active cases in the parish. Speaking at the monthly meeting of the St. Thomas Municipal Corporation, Dr. D’Oyen Smith, Medical Officer of Health for the parish, said nine people are hospitalised while 22 are in isolation at home. There are 31 active cases in St. Thomas. However, Dr. Smith said there is a high level of vaccine hesitancy in the parish, with only 18,000 people being inoculated against COVID-19. This represents eight per cent of the population of St. Thomas. Dr. Smith said a number of families are refusing to have their seniors and shut-ins inoculated through the community vaccination drive.
